Student Conduct

Students are to obey all safety and playground rules. The rules are posted in each classroom.

At Imagine Schools at West Melbourne we will:

  1. Respect each other.
  2. Respect personal and school property.
  3. Respect the activities and play areas of others.
  4. Arrive on time and stay in assigned areas.
  5. Follow directions.
  6. Try hard. Do your best.
  7. Complete classroom and homework assignments.
  8. Use only assigned restrooms and use them only for their intended purposes.
  9. Leave the playground only with permission.
  10. On entering the cafeteria, place playground equipment in assigned place, sit at assigned tables, talk quietly and clean up the tables before you leave. Remain seated until dismissed then go directly to the playground.

NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH OTHERS’ RIGHTS TO LEARN AND PLAY SAFELY.

School Rules:

  1. Keep hands and feet and objects to yourself. Students will not push, hit, or use aggressive behavior or abusive language toward other students.
  2. Obey and respect all staff on campus.
  3. Complete all assigned work on time.
  4. Play in assigned areas only.
  5. Leave non-school items at home. The following are not allowed on campus: skateboards, roller blades, skates, scooters, radios, game boys and other electronic devices, laser pen lights, recorders/players, knives or weapons and dangerous objects of any kind.
  6. Gum is not allowed at school.
  7. Students will follow lunchtime procedures. Eating is limited to designated areas only.
  8. Walk bicycles on school grounds. Bikes will remain in bike racks and locked at all times.
  9. Leave playground, class or campus ONLY when proper permission in given.

Cafeteria
The lunch period is a time when courtesy and consideration become especially important. Cafeteria rules are:

  1. Students will enter the cafeteria in an orderly manner.
  2. Students are to eat using appropriate manners. Throwing food, popping bags, making loud noises, grabbing other children’s food off their plates, etc. will not be allowed.
  3. When leaving the cafeteria or eating area, students will leave the tables and floor area clean.
  4. Students will be allowed to eat only in the cafeteria or at the picnic benches under the lunch cover, not in other areas of the school (except in special circumstances).

Playground Expectations
The playground is always under the supervision of teachers or other school employees at each play period and at lunch and recess. Children are taught to take pride in their surroundings and are expected to help keep the school grounds clean and obey the following:

Playground/Safety Rules:

  1. There are no closed games.
  2. Students must freeze when the bell rings then line up immediately when given permission.
  3. Students will run or play in designated areas only. Running games are to be held on the grass only.
  4. Never push, cut in, or run to any line.
  5. Wait your turn.
  6. Eat snacks in proper area. No food is allowed on the playground.
  7. Do not leave the playground without permission.
  8. Use playground equipment properly.
  9. Do not run through or interfere with someone else’s game.
  10. Do not throw any objects other than balls.
  11. Do not play around or under playground equipment.
  12. Do not play in restrooms or around fountains.
  13. Do not climb or hang on basketball standards, baseball backstops, buildings, trees, fences or walls.
  14. Walk to and from playground and lunch area.
  15. Do not twist, swing sideways, or jump off swings.
  16. Do not push, hit or threaten others.
  17. Use common sense when using all playground equipment.
  18. Restrooms are to be used for the intended purpose ONLY. Parents are liable for any damage caused by their children.

Classroom Behavior Expectations
Students are to behave at all times in a manner which will allow the teacher to carry out his/her classroom responsibilities. Teachers are entitled to be treated with respect by students. The teacher is in authority and in charge of the classroom. The learning process becomes optimal in a climate of mutual respect.

Classroom Rules:
Basic rules of conduct for every classroom will include the following:

  1. Children will be good listeners.
  2. Children will follow directions the first time.
  3. Children will show respect to others.
  4. Children must not interrupt the teaching/learning process.

CONSEQUENCES Positive Behavior/Citizenship Reinforcement

A program of positive reinforcement is used to encourage, reward, and recognize good citizenship. The vast majority of students obey all the rules all the time and we believe it is important that these students understand the connection between demonstrating self-discipline and the positive results of following the rules. Examples of positive reinforcement activities that may be used include, but are not limited to:

  • Friday activities
  • Coupons for food, merchandise, or activities
  • Student of the month and week
  • Stickers, stars, treats, prizes
  • Attendance incentives/certificates
  • Academic awards
  • Good citizenship certificates
  • Leadership privileges
  • Assemblies
  • Field trips
  • Extracurricular activities

The above activities could not be accomplished without the outstanding support of our parent organizations, volunteers, and contributions from community merchants and restaurants.

Detention/Saturday School

Detention or Saturday School is part of the discipline program and for that reason a student MUST ATTEND as assigned. When an after school detention is assigned, the school will attempt to cooperate, within reason, with parents on assignment dates. An additional detention day will be assigned for each day a detention slip is not returned. Additional detentions days or a day of suspension will be assigned to children who fail to attend detentions or who misbehave during detention. Students who fail to attend or misbehave during Saturday School may be suspended. It is imperative for parents to support the school’s discipline procedures and to work with us to help your child to be successful.
